Further soundtrack reseearch

Sam, Conor and I will have to produce our own music for the film otherwise we may be deducted marks for copyright. I have look at some music making software we could probably use. The first software I looked into was Garage Band on the IPad, iPod and Macs. On the garage band app you can make all sorts of music from using various different instruments such as guitars, keyboards, drums, and voice there is different types and styles to each of the instruments mentioned. The next software I looked at was an free Internet application called audiotool. Audiotool contains several different samples and loops for the user to edit and play around with. You can insert you personal sounds as well, you can edit them by using several different pedals such as a phaser and echo to edit the sounds. I have used both of these softwares and I have enjoyed using them and I found them fairly simple to use and would help greatly towards making the soundtrack to our movie and trailer. We could also make our own music with real instruments such as guitars as Sam and myself have experiance in playing the guitar so we could maybe take advantage of these skills and produce our own music that way.

Audience Research

We asked 20 people all ranging in age and gender to see what they like to see in a Film and what makes them laugh. The following are the results from the questions we asked people:

Blue = Parody or a spoof
Green = Slapstick
Orange = Comedy Movie
Red = Romantic Comedys

From the research we know that more people prefer to watch slapstick comedies as they may enjoy seeing people tripping over and hurting themselves, they might also enjoy seeing these people in awkward situations. The results are suprising as I didn't expect alot of people to enjoy slapstick comedy especially older adults.

soundtrack research

So the whole group has done some soundtrack research and we have not come to the actual music that we will use yet but we have decided that we will use three different kinds of music and they will be evil music a superhero music and then we will have a strong peice of music to start our trailer such as the transformer trailer music. I think this will work well as it is quite hard hitting.
After this music goes on for aproximately we will stop it with a sort of screech as it will show Conor and Myself as superheros and as we will look totally ridiculous it will show to the audience that this is a comedy and after this music we will lead into a couple of jokes just to pushrough to the audience what this is going to be like . We will show scenes such as Conor and Myself riding on the bike.

target audience

if we decide to stick to a 15 certificate then our film will obviously need to suit mid-teens/ early twenties like stated on this blog before. I mentioned on the other post we will need aim it at this specific audience because of our writing abilities and what we find funny. The target audiece we are aiming at would be appropiate as the sense of humour of anybody older than this would be far too mature for the sense of comedy we plan to use in the film. We are likely to use some form of slapstick comedy and general comedy that people would expect from this sort of genre of film. I highly doubt that the people above our target audience would be intrested in this kind of film.

Main characters

This is a photo of my other group members, the one on the right is conor and he will be playing my side kick and the one on the left, Sam, will be playing the villain in the film. Conor will be wearing the wrestiling mask, Conor will essentially be my best friend as he will support me through the process of me becoming a superhero as he will be my side kick as well. Sam will be the villain, he will be the person who wants to cause us trouble as superheroes. The photo above will be the chemistry between the two superheroes.

Costume

These would be the thermals I would wear as my character, and possibly these gloves. We haven't discussed wearing gloves in our movie, but I believe it would be appropriate as all superheroes wear gloves in the modern day superhero films. Conor also has similar thermals to me, he would wear them as my side kick.

Extra's

we need to start think about casting and we may need some extra's in our film as we only have three in our group. We are going to need extra's to play the villains, sam, henchmen. We were thinking about school friends to play this role, they will only be in the film briefly as the main focus will be on the three of us, Sam Conor and I. we may only need these henchmen for the advert becasue we don't know if we would go far enough into the film in order to show these henchmen in action. we will need to discuss this futher on in more detail. Possible extra is Billy Yates, a class mate of ours.

Taken opening 2 minutes

the film taken stars Liam Neeson and grossed around $145,000,989. The first scene has a clip of  five year old at her birthday, it appears to be a memory as it is all distorted and blurred. the credits are shown over the footage. suddenly it all stops and Neeson is in his apartment just waking up from a sleep his is holding a photo of the girl when she is a little bit older. He then enters a shop and converses with the shop keep, they are obviously close as the talk to each other and joke around, they finish talking and then the main character buys a karaoke machine then leaves the shop.

intial thought of trailer

I was think briefly about a possible trailer, we could have the first shot of the base of our wellies together and , similar to a scene in toy story, we would have the camera pan up the bodies of me and conor together. Whilst the camera is panning up there is dialouge of me or conor speaking about who we are and what kind of superhero we both are. We would both be pulling poses in which stereotypical superheroes will pull such as the hands on hips pose, that scene would intially stop when the camera reaches our masks.

target audience

we will want to base our target audience at 15 or above as we discussed earlier, so our audience will be late teens/early twenties. The reasobn we want to base the film at this specific audience becasue they are likely to have the same sense of humour as us, if we base it at this age it will be easy when we are preparing our scripture as we will be able to write a funny one as we know what will make them laugh. We also believe that any older than this age bracket and they simply wont find it interesting or funny enough.

more costume thoughts

conor and I were discussing more costume ideas and we thought to get the comical look to our superheroes. We were thinking about wearing items such as thermals and a wrestlers mask that conor has, conor owns a purple rey mysterio mask and a red one. We think this will be quite comical especially with the wellinton boots on as well.

certificate

Within our group we are stuck deciding what rating to give our film we belive either a 12 or a 15, conor thinks we should have a 15 rating as our film becasue we may use swear words and the humour may be a little crude for a 12 film. This rating is subject to change. The following is the link to the bbfc website which will help us to decide the rating.
http://www.bbfc.co.uk/classification/guidelines/

superhero movie

superhero movie is an example of a poor superhero spoof which failed due to weak comedy and poor effects. the movie grossed around $25,871,834, and recieved a poor rating, the film was a PG 13 and never really wowed the critics and only ever recieved a two star or a one star rating. There could have been many reasons for the slump of the anticipated superhero spoof it may have been for the list of actors whom no one have anyone had ever heard of. for me it was the comedy, it was very weak and never really made myself laugh. These are things my group and I must consider when we are writing the comedy for our film and pick costumes. We need to make sure our comedy suits the target audience we choose for our spoof.

spiderman

Spiderman is a superhero film based on the popular Marvel comic series, the film grossed around $821,708,551 and starred big names such as Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst and Willem Dafoe. This fil is relevant to my research on our possible film as it is a superhero film and my group and I are planning to do a similar genre of superhero spoof. Although this film isnt a superhero spoof i think it is good to watch this genre of movies so my group knows for costumes and shot types. It would also give us a good idea in what to do for locations.
